Dear Readers,
Seeing the bright side of a situation is no easy task when the whole world is painting such a bleak picture of it. Nevertheless, there is a wealth of opportunities for investors who do not wish to remain sitting on their hands. They can take advantage of market volatility and reap gains from fluctuations that have rarely been as great as now. Those who are now carefully mapping out long-term strategies will certainly thrive. At the end of the day, the true winners in a crisis situation are always the optimists.
It all depends on how you look at it. The bond market presents an interesting alternative. Investors are becoming more concerned about quality, so they are willing to pay a premium for safe government debt. These days it is not business as usual in the bond market – the prices being paid are reaching staggering amounts. Our search engine will help you find the right investment for your strategy.
And you will no doubt see action in the bond market. In this area, Swissquote is collaborating with bridport Investor Services, the Swiss bond specialist. The highly motivated team at bridport & cie s.a. quickly and transparently prepares offers at competitive prices. The widest online choice in bonds can be found at Swissquote, at very favourable conditions. You can choose from among 10,000 different bonds.
The occasion is propitious: up to 30 November, Swissquote is providing a 50 percent discount in bond trading. For more information, please click here.
I wish you the greatest success in your investments.
On behalf of the Swissquote Management Team

STABLE REVENUES AND HIGH GROWTH IN SPITE OF THE CRISIS
|
|
 |
In spite of the ongoing financial crisis and a summer devoid of clear stock market trends, Swissquote has succeeded in increasing its client base over the first nine months of the year by 31.4 percent, reaching 110,533. A new record was set with new monies inflow reaching CHF 965.8 million. Revenues – at a high rate of CHF 82.2 million – remained stable. Swissquote posted a net profit of CHF 24.1 million. For the year to date, Swissquote is maintaining its growth objectives: 115,000 trading clients and a net inflow of new monies of at least CHF 1.2 billion.
Swissquote does not engage in dealings as principal, and therefore is only indirectly affected by the global financial crisis. Swissquote’s balance sheet remains strong and healthy, with a BIS core equity ratio (tier 1) of 19 percent and a free cash flow of CHF 75.6 million. Our equity amounts to CHF 130.7 million.

STRONGER PRESENCE AT THE ZURICH LOCATION |
|
 |
Swissquote is consolidating its presence in the Zurich region. After having moved from the Glattzentrum to the city centre and inaugurating the new Swissquote Lounge at Schützengasse 22-24, we have opened our logistics centre in Zurich-Seebach where a staff of 14 is today at work.
Following the strong growth of the institutional clients’ segment, we also moved part of the trading floor from Gland to Zurich. In all, Swissquote now has 72 people working at its Zurich locations.

AND THE WINNER IS ... |
|
 |
Despite the turbulent times in the stock markets, bits of good news can still be found: the investment competition organised by the Tages-Anzeiger in cooperation with Swissquote Bank and Bank Vontobel has named its four quarterly winners and three annual winners. The first prize, worth CHF 50,000, was awarded to Daniel Huggenberger. The overall yield of his portfolio reached an astounding 112 percent!
Another bit of good news: our iPhone 3Gs have found their owners. The 11,330 participants in Swissquote’s SMI competition had to predict the SMI’s position at the close of trading on 30 September 2008. The SMI closed at 6655 points that day, and the closest prediction was just 0.11 points shy of the mark. The happy winners have already received their iPhone 3G. We wish them all the best in their dealings over their new iPhones. You can find all the results here.
The Swiss French television channel TSR’s economic show TTC (Toutes taxes comprises) has launched the TTC index in cooperation with Swissquote. 2,513 participants in this competition have been trying to beat this index since 4 October. The one who outperforms the TTC index will receive the portfolio in question. The results will be disclosed in the 15 December broadcast. We can’t wait!
